Soldier of Fortune Magazine Presents A Hunger for Heroes
Carl H. YaegerThe few
gunners manning the machine guns and the portable heat-seeking missiles on the
roofs of the highest buildings hardly had time to fire. The Super Sea Harriers
streaked in between the mountains, the setting sun at their rear, only 400 feet
off the ground. They fired flares, which distracted the few missiles which the
gunners were able to fire.
Flying
abreast, the Harriers opened the gas pods, and the tens of thousands of
metallic Varin spheres fell in a wide pattern completely covering the city. They
bounced through the streets, crashing through windows. Others fell among the
hillside mansions, breaking into the ornate rooms of the drug czars. Within
seconds after impact, the spheres exploded, spewing their deadly vapors.
In less than
four minutes, the entire population of San Vicente was dead.
